South Africa Confirms Morocco Still Hosting 2026 Women’s AFCON

South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has clarified that Morocco remains the official host of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The statement comes after earlier reports suggested South Africa might take over hosting duties. McKenzie emphasized that no formal decision has been made to move the tournament and that Morocco is still set to host the competition, which begins on March 17, 2026.

He added that South Africa has only expressed readiness to assist CAF if contingency plans are needed, but any change in host would require official approval and confirmation that all necessary venues and infrastructure are ready — none of which has occurred.
