The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation following allegations that some of its personnel may have been shielding drug dealers in Lagos. The inquiry comes after local authorities raised concerns that criminal activities, including illicit drug sales, have been thriving near a military barracks without effective intervention.
The chairman of the Apapa‑Iganmu Local Council reported that a community hotspot, known as Gidan Drama, has become a haven for suspects involved in drug trafficking. Attempts by local officials to curb these activities were reportedly obstructed, prompting calls for urgent action to restore public safety.
Army officials stated that a thorough inquiry would be conducted to identify any wrongdoing and ensure that military personnel uphold their duty to support law enforcement. They also emphasized that the allegations are being taken seriously, pending verification of facts.
Residents and community leaders have urged both the Army and police to intensify operations in affected areas to prevent further criminal activity and protect the wellbeing of local communities.
