Nnamdi Kanu Orders End to Monday Sit-at-Home as IPOB Calls for Full South-East Resumption

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared an immediate and permanent halt to the long-running Monday sit-at-home directive observed in many South-East communities. The group said the decision takes effect from the next Monday, calling on residents across the region to resume normal daily activities.

According to the announcement, the order was issued by the movement’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, with an emphasis on restoring regular school attendance for children and allowing businesses and workers to operate without disruption. Supporters were told there should be no further uncertainty about the position, stressing that the weekly shutdown should no longer be observed.

IPOB stated that markets, transport services, offices, and other economic sectors are expected to function fully on Mondays going forward. The group also warned that any individuals or factions attempting to continue enforcing the weekly restriction are acting outside its authority and do not represent its current position.

The organization further cautioned the public to be alert to possible misinformation or attempts to create panic, urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding. It also argued that government authorities should not penalize traders who previously complied with the sit-at-home order, and called for consultation and proper arrangements in cases where market renovations or relocations are planned.

IPOB concluded by encouraging unity among South-East residents and reaffirmed that community members should go about their lawful activities without fear, marking what it described as a new phase in the region’s civic and economic life.
