The Abia State Government has commenced payment of the consequential adjusted minimum wage to personnel under the State Education Management Board and public school teachers, with the update already reflected in their January 2026 salary payments, according to a report by ABN TV.

This development was confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Kenechukwu Nwosu, who shared the update with the public on Sunday. He explained that the move forms part of broader steps by the present administration to strengthen the welfare framework for education workers across the state.

Nwosu noted that beyond salary adjustments, the government is also advancing work on the processing of leave allowances owed to SEMB staff and teachers. He added that arrangements are underway to address payments concerning teachers whose appointments were earlier extended for five years but were later affected by administrative and system related complications.

According to him, these measures demonstrate a structured approach to resolving outstanding welfare matters within the education sector while ensuring that affected personnel receive due consideration.

He commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for giving priority attention to education, stating that the administration’s actions reflect a practical commitment to improving working conditions for teachers and other education professionals in the state.

The adviser reassured stakeholders that additional updates would be communicated as the government continues to address remaining issues within the system.
