Stallions Turn the Page With New Coach After AFCON Disappointment

Burkina Faso’s national football team has a fresh leader at the helm as the Burkina Faso Football Federation confirmed Amir Abdou as the new head coach, marking the start of a rebuild following a disappointing performance at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

Abdou, a 53‑year‑old Franco‑Comorian coach, takes over from Brama Traoré, who was relieved of his duties after the Stallions were knocked out in the round of 16 at the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

The federation says Abdou stood out in a competitive selection process and brings valuable experience from his previous work with national teams like Comoros and Mauritania, where he demonstrated a strong tactical approach and organisational skills.

Abdou’s immediate task will be to steady the team ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign and upcoming World Cup qualifiers, as Burkina Faso aims to return to consistent success on the continental stage.

Supporters will be watching closely as the new coach prepares the Stallions for their first matches in the March 2026 international window, with opponents still to be announced by the federation.
