The Nigerian Senate has raised concerns over the reported ₦5.9 billion spent on rebranding the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC). Lawmakers said the large expenditure demands a clear explanation and proper justification, stressing the need for transparency in the use of public funds.

During a review of financial records, senators scrutinized the costs involved in changing the company’s name and identity. Many lawmakers described the figure as excessive and urged the agency to provide full details on how the money was spent.

Senators emphasized that government agencies must account for every naira, particularly when dealing with public resources. They warned that unchecked spending on administrative changes could erode public trust.

The Senate committee has demanded detailed clarification from NNPC and indicated that further investigations could follow to ensure accountability and responsible management of national funds.
