The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 57,000 personnel across the country to ensure safety and security during the Easter celebrations.

In a statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the Corps said the deployment covers churches, parks, shopping malls, recreational centres, and other public places. The move, approved by Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, is aimed at preventing security breaches during the busy festive period.

The operation spans all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with specialised tactical units and intelligence officers assigned to protect lives, property, and critical national assets. Zonal commanders and state commandants have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance, particularly in high-traffic and high-risk locations, through both visible patrols and covert surveillance.

Audi emphasised the need for collaboration among security agencies and effective intelligence sharing, noting that these measures are key to ensuring a peaceful celebration. He also urged Nigerians to remain alert and cooperate with security personnel.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has advised motorists to limit unnecessary travel and avoid speeding during the Easter period to reduce road accidents.

The Itori Unit Commander of the FRSC, Babatunde Gold, who spoke with journalists in Ota, stressed the importance of caution, noting that reduced road use could help prevent avoidable crashes.

He urged drivers to obey traffic rules, avoid dangerous practices such as driving against traffic or competing with other motorists, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.

Gold added that the FRSC would conduct special patrol operations during the holiday to respond to emergencies and enforce compliance, with the goal of minimising accidents and ensuring safer roads throughout the festive season.
