There was a strong security presence at the Kaduna State High Court on Monday as former Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai appeared for the hearing of a corruption case filed against him.
Security operatives were deployed across key areas of the court premises to maintain order and ensure safety during the proceedings.
El-Rufai is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) alongside Amadu Sule. The charges against them include alleged abuse of office, fraud, attempted fraud, and granting undue advantage.
Before entering the courtroom, El-Rufai was heard speaking with an associate about the upcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He asked, “So tomorrow is our convention, right?” to which the associate replied, “God willing,” suggesting his continued involvement in political activities despite the trial.
In a related development, the former governor is also facing a separate 10-count charge at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. The case involves allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud reportedly amounting to N579.6 million and $1.1 million.
