The Rivers State Government has ordered the indefinite closure of Wisdom Gate International School in Port Harcourt following the death of a two-year-old pupil, triggering widespread concern over child safety in schools.

Education officials announced that the institution, located in the Eligbolo area, will remain shut until a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death is completed. The directive halts all academic activities at the campus as authorities work to determine what went wrong.

The Commissioner for Education expressed sympathy to the bereaved family, describing the incident as deeply tragic, while urging the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as inquiries continue. He noted that the government has already engaged with the school’s management and initiated an independent review of the case.

The closure comes amid rising public outrage over the incident, which has drawn attention to safety standards in private educational institutions. Reports indicate that the government is keen on enforcing stricter compliance measures to ensure the protection of children across schools in the state.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to holding any responsible parties accountable while strengthening oversight to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
