Tragedy has hit the Ghana Premier League following the death of Berekum Chelsea winger, Dominic Frimpong, who was killed during an armed robbery incident on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The 20-year-old player reportedly lost his life when the team’s bus was ambushed while returning from an away match against Samartex in Samreboi.
The attack occurred along the Goaso–Bibiani road, where masked gunmen blocked the team’s vehicle. According to the club, the attackers opened fire as the driver attempted to reverse to safety, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes to escape.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressed deep shock and sorrow over the incident, describing Frimpong as a talented young player with great potential and passion for the game.
This is not the first attack reported on the route. In 2023, a similar incident involving Legon Cities was recorded, though no injuries were sustained at the time.
In response to the latest tragedy, the GFA has pledged to enhance security measures for teams traveling across the country for league matches.
Frimpong’s death has sparked widespread tributes from the football community, casting a shadow over recent sporting activities in the region and raising fresh concerns about the safety of teams on the road.
