Top professional golfers from across Africa have converged on Lakowe Lakes Golf Club as the Sunshine Developmental Tour Qualifying School gets underway in Nigeria.
The prestigious tournament, scheduled as a 54-hole competition, officially teed off on Monday, with players competing over three days for a chance to secure entry into the Sunshine Tour, one of Africa’s leading professional golf circuits.
Golfers from Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gabon, and other West and Central African nations are participating in the high-stakes event, which organizers describe as a major milestone for golf development in the region.
Officials say the qualifying school marks the first time Nigeria is hosting such a pathway event, opening doors for emerging talents to compete on a bigger international stage.
According to the management of Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate, the competition is part of broader efforts to raise the standard of the sport locally while giving players exposure to global-level tournaments.
The event is also expected to help participants earn ranking points and further their professional careers as they aim for spots on the main Sunshine Tour.
With a strong international field and increased attention on the Lagos-based course, the tournament is seen as a significant step forward for West African golf.
