Former England international Ashley Cole has officially stepped into his first senior head coach position, taking charge of Italian side Cesena, marking a major new chapter in his post-playing career.

The ex-Arsenal and Chelsea left-back, who earned 107 caps for England and retired in 2019, has moved into full managerial duties after several years working as an assistant and academy coach across England. His previous roles included coaching spells at Chelsea’s academy, Everton, Birmingham City, and with England’s youth and senior setups.

Cesena, who compete in Italy’s Serie B, handed the 45-year-old the job as they look to strengthen their push in the league. The appointment is seen as a significant step for Cole, who has now transitioned from support staff roles into leading a first-team dressing room for the first time.

During his coaching journey, Cole worked closely with managers such as Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, and Lee Carsley, gaining experience in both club and international environments before deciding to take on a head coach challenge abroad.

His move to Italy also marks a return to familiar ground, having previously played for Roma during his career. Cesena are banking on his elite playing experience and coaching background as they aim to improve their standing in the league and compete for higher ambitions.
