Aliko Dangote, is reportedly planning a significant expansion of his oil refining business, with proposals to extend a similar large-scale facility model to East Africa.

The plan would see the development of a new refinery capable of processing hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude oil daily, mirroring the design and output capacity of his existing 650,000-barrel-per-day complex in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to discussions around the project, the proposed expansion is aimed at strengthening fuel supply across the region and reducing dependence on imported refined petroleum products. The facility is also expected to support energy security and improve price stability in participating countries.

Dangote has indicated that the East African project could be delivered within a few years once regional governments agree on investment frameworks and location details. The initiative would involve collaboration with multiple countries seeking to pool crude resources and refine them locally.

If completed, the development would mark one of the largest industrial energy investments in the region, further expanding Dangote’s influence in Africa’s downstream oil sector and reshaping regional fuel distribution networks.
