A recent event held in honour of Reverend Father Morris gained widespread attention on social media after former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, was seen distributing food to attendees. The photos and videos sparked criticism from some Nigerians who dismissed the gesture as a political stunt.
Responding to the backlash, Obi clarified that his actions were not for show but a genuine reflection of what leadership should embody—compassion, humility, and service to the people. He emphasized that sharing food was symbolic of care and community support, values he believes every society should embrace.
Speaking at the event, Obi highlighted the importance of responsible leadership rooted in empathy for the people. He commended Reverend Father Morris as a model of selfless service, particularly to the poor, and encouraged him to continue his mission of helping others.
Obi assured guests that no one would be excluded from the celebration, promising that everyone present would be served food.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to always participate in acts of service, regardless of location, stating, “Wherever there is service, I want to be part of it.”
“I’ve been here serving people, seeing them eat and celebrate with joy. That’s the kind of society we should build—one where care for others is a norm,” Obi concluded.
