The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has taken delivery of over 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks as it gears up for a nationwide rollout of petroleum product distribution set to commence on August 15, 2025.

Investigations by Vanguard revealed that additional deliveries are expected in the coming days as the refinery works towards increasing its fleet to 4,000 CNG trucks, in line with its ambitious fuel distribution programme.

The 650,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) facility has committed more than N720 billion to this initiative, which is expected to save the Nigerian economy over N1.7 trillion annually. As part of the plan, Dangote Refinery will absorb over N1.07 trillion in distribution costs, easing the financial burden on fuel marketers and reducing transportation costs nationwide.

The refinery’s move is projected to significantly impact over 42 million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by cutting down energy costs and boosting profitability.

From August 15, the company will begin direct delivery of petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel to filling stations, industrial plants, and high-volume consumers across the country. This is expected to contribute to a drop in pump prices and help stabilise inflation rates.

The refinery also aims to meet the country’s daily demand for refined products, which includes 45 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 15 million litres of diesel, and 5 million litres of aviation fuel.

Stakeholders have expressed varying opinions about the initiative, but the refinery maintains its commitment to launching as scheduled, positioning itself as a major force in reshaping Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.
