The Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency came alive on Sunday as Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North & South, ceremonially kicked off the grand finale of the Champions League Unity Cup, a tournament he pioneered to foster peace, unity, and cooperation among communities.

In a tightly contested match, Ubakala Football Club triumphed over Olokoro Football Club with a lone goal, clinching the trophy in front of a jubilant crowd.

The event attracted an impressive roll call of dignitaries, including Hon. Austin Meregini, Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly; Hon. Chinasa Anthony Abiola; Hon. Tommy Obioma; Hon. Boniface Ishienyi; Archbishop Chibuzo Opoko; the President General of Ibeku Ancient Clan; youth clan presidents, and other notable community figures.

Commending Hon. Aguocha’s vision, many attendees hailed his dedication to grassroots development and his belief in sports as a unifying force. His initiative has not only provided a platform for young talents to shine but has also strengthened inter-community bonds across the constituency.

In his remarks, Hon. Aguocha thanked all participating teams, supporters, and community leaders for embracing the spirit of unity. He further revealed that next year’s edition will be expanded to feature both male and female youth categories, a move he said will deepen inclusivity and create even more opportunities for young people to excel.

Speaking after their victory, the captain of Ubakala FC, on behalf of his teammates, expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Aguocha for creating such a platform. He praised the lawmaker’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and pledged that the team would continue to uphold the values of unity and sportsmanship that the tournament represents.
