The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dissolved the executive leadership of its Edo State Council over allegations of misconduct, anti-union activities, and serious violations of the organisation’s constitution.
The decision, which took effect on Monday, August 11, 2025, was conveyed in a letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment, signed by the NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah.
According to the letter, the dissolution became necessary due to “unethical behaviour, anti-union activities, and blatant breaches of the Constitution and rules of Congress” by the dissolved state leadership.
To fill the leadership vacuum, the NLC has constituted a five-member caretaker committee to oversee the council’s affairs and organize new elections. The committee includes:
Lewis Monday Igbafen (ASUU)
Ochei Onyebuchi Mike (NUTGTWN)
Orein Charles Uwanle (JUSUN)
Nwaneli Thankgod (MWUN)
Augustine Ekanem (NUCFRLANMPE)
Upah confirmed that the interim committee has been granted full authority to manage the council’s operations and ensure a smooth transition toward electing new officials.
