Several members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ayedire Local Government Area of Osun State on Tuesday officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The defectors, led by Tunji Ogunrinu, were welcomed by officials of the Omoluabi Progressives — a political group aligned with the ADC and backed by the party’s National Secretary, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola.

According to a statement issued by Oluwaseun Abosede, Publicity and Organising Secretary of Omoluabi Progressives, Ogunrinu stated that the move was triggered by dissatisfaction with the PDP’s internal leadership and its failure to recognize and reward party loyalty.

“This decision was not made lightly,” Ogunrinu said. “But the poor internal management of the PDP and the lack of appreciation for loyal members made it inevitable.”

Speaking on behalf of other defectors, Abdulganiyu Akeem said, “The people of Osun deserve better governance. It’s time for citizens to arise and shine, not continue enduring suffering in silence.”

Facilitating the defection was Gbenga Ogunkanmi, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly representing Ayedire State Constituency. He described the defectors as influential political figures and grassroots mobilisers who would significantly strengthen the ADC’s presence in the state.

The chairman of Omoluabi Progressives, Azeez Adesiji, assured the new members of their full integration into the ADC’s political structure.

Reacting to the development, Osun PDP spokesperson Oladele Bamiji downplayed the defection, claiming the individuals were not recognized members of the party.

“We don’t know those who defected,” Bamiji said. “They are unknown to us. Genuine party members who have issues know the proper channels for redress. The PDP remains a formidable force with a deep-rooted grassroots network across the state.”
