The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has begun an inquiry into the recent incident involving Ibom Air, where a female passenger, Comfort Emmanson, was subjected to severe treatment following a dispute with airline crew.

Reports indicate that the altercation, which took place at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on August 10, 2025, escalated to the point where Emmanson was allegedly assaulted and publicly stripped. This incident, captured on video, has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, confirmed the investigation in a statement via X (formerly Twitter). “Yesterday in Abuja, the NCAA team met with Julie Edwards and other crew members involved in the Comfort Emmanson incident as part of our ongoing investigation,” he stated.

The NCAA is collaborating across multiple directorates including Aviation Security, Operations, Licensing and Training Standards, Legal, and Consumer Protection to ensure a thorough and fair investigation.

Later on Thursday, Achimugu announced that Emmanson was scheduled to meet with the NCAA, accompanied by her legal representative, to discuss the details of the incident further.

In the wake of the controversy, Ibom Air released a statement defending its crew, asserting that Emmanson had repeatedly refused to heed instructions from the flight attendants. In contrast, Emmanson’s legal team has characterized the airline’s response as deceptive, arguing that their client endured “arbitrary and degrading treatment” that infringed upon her fundamental rights.

As the investigation unfolds, many are closely monitoring the NCAA’s findings and the responses from both Ibom Air and Emmanson’s legal representatives.
