The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed Ambassador Iliya Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
The announcement was made during the 102nd NEC meeting held on Monday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The session, which commenced at 2 p.m., deliberated on critical matters, including the report of the National Zoning Committee and preparations for the party’s forthcoming national convention.
Party leaders described the meeting as a defining moment for the PDP as it seeks to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to insiders, the gathering underscored the party’s renewed commitment to presenting Nigerians with a credible opposition and strengthening its electoral prospects.
The NEC also considered disciplinary issues involving prominent members accused of anti-party activities during the last general elections. Among those affected are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom. The Tom Ikimi-led disciplinary committee had earlier submitted its report to the National Working Committee (NWC), recommending sanctions against indicted members.
Meanwhile, the PDP fixed its next national convention for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new national officers are expected to be elected.
