President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after a three-day official visit to Brazil, where he sought to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and trade relations between both nations.

The presidential aircraft departed Brasília International Airport’s Air Force Base at 12:57 a.m. local time on Wednesday, with top Brazilian officials, including Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, on hand to bid farewell.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials accompanied the President. A guard of honour, led by Col. Cel Nicolas, completed the departure ceremony.

Tinubu arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, and was received with full military honours. During the high-level visit, he held talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and senior officials, culminating in the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) spanning aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture.

The President also met with the Director-General of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission and representatives of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, commending the resilience of Nigeria’s capital market as a sign of renewed investor confidence under his administration.

Beyond official meetings, Tinubu held discussions to expand cooperation in trade, education, and innovation, while also engaging the Nigerian community in Brazil. He urged members of the diaspora to contribute actively to the nation’s development.
