The Njiko Igbo Forum, an affiliate of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared that its nationwide mobilisation for the 2027 general elections is aimed at ensuring former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, returns to the ballot.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Chief Elliot Uko Obioha said the advocacy would begin in the Southwest in the coming days and continue across the country until the elections are concluded. He explained that Obi’s choice of political platform for 2027 was secondary, as the group’s priority is to reassure Nigerians of his presence in the race.
According to Obioha, the Forum has consistently championed the cause of rotating the presidency to the Southeast in the spirit of justice and equity. He argued that since the Southwest is currently holding power, the remaining four years of the South’s turn should go to the Southeast.
“We fought for power in 2023 and campaigned vigorously for Obi because he was the most credible among all the candidates. Nigerians voted for him, but we believe he was unjustly denied victory,” Obioha said.
He further urged Igbos across the country to unite behind Obi in 2027, irrespective of the party platform he chooses, stressing that the former governor of Anambra State has the vision and capacity to lead Nigeria effectively.
On voter registration, Obioha faulted the figures recently released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting they did not reflect the reality on the ground. He called on all eligible Igbo youths aged 18 and above to register in large numbers to strengthen the region’s voice in the elections.
Expressing optimism, he said the 2027 polls would not follow the “disappointing” path of 2023, adding that Nigerians were now more politically aware and determined to resist electoral manipulation.
“The votes of the people will surely count this time to determine who becomes the next president of Nigeria,” he assured.
