Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has lifted the suspension earlier imposed on three top public officials, following a fresh resolution by the State House of Assembly. The officials affected include Maxwell Ogiri, Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area; Grace Adagba, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); and Michael Uper, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission.
Initially, the governor had upheld the Assembly’s decision to suspend the trio. However, recent leadership changes in the legislative chamber led lawmakers to reverse their stance and request that the governor restore the officials to their positions.
In a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia confirmed he had acted in compliance with the Assembly’s latest resolution. He directed the immediate reinstatement of the suspended officers and emphasized his administration’s respect for the constitutional role of the legislature.
Governor Alia urged the reinstated officials to recommit themselves to their responsibilities, maintain accountability, and work diligently for the people’s welfare. He also assured Benue citizens of his continued dedication to transparent, responsive, and people-centered governance.
