Rivers APC Vows Cooperation as Governor Fubara Returns Sept. 18

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured residents of its readiness to work with Governor Siminalayi Fubara when he resumes office on September 18, marking the end of the six-month state of emergency in the state.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, APC State Chairman Tony Okocha expressed gratitude to Rivers people, the party’s national leadership, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support during the just-concluded local government elections, in which the party secured 20 chairmanship positions.

“It is real that September 18 will mark exactly six months since the suspension of the governor,” Okocha said. “As the six months elapse, he is expected to return to office. So, we will work with him. The State Assembly will cooperate with the governor, but if he deviates or delves into obnoxious acts, we will criticize and call him to order.”

Okocha explained that the APC strategically avoided contesting in Obio-Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, and Port Harcourt City councils, acknowledging the political dominance of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in those areas. The seats were won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The state chairman further disclosed that the APC is working towards consolidating its grip on Rivers politics, declaring that the ultimate goal is to make the state “100 percent APC.” He also appealed to opposition politicians, including Wike, to join the ruling party to foster what he described as “absolute peace.”
