Zamfara Sets Up Committee to Assist Victims of Banditry

The Zamfara State Government has inaugurated a Standing Committee to provide immediate and long-term support for victims of banditry across the state.

According to Governor Dauda Lawal, the committee will ensure that relief materials and sympathy visits reach victims within 48 hours of any attack. It will also conduct detailed assessments of damages, including lives lost, displaced persons, and destruction of properties, farms, and other assets.

The body is further mandated to recommend strategies for rebuilding communities, preventing future attacks, and collaborating with relevant ministries and agencies. Periodic reports will be submitted to the Secretary to the State Government.

Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mummuni Masamar Mudi was named chairman of the committee, with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Isma’il Moriki, serving as vice chairman.

Other members include commissioners of Security and Internal Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, Health, and Information. Also on the team are the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad Mohammad; the governor’s Special Adviser on Security; the Executive Secretary of ZEMA; security aides from Government House; and the Chairman of the Zamfara State Council of Ulama.

Yazidu Attahiru, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Security and Internal Affairs, will serve as secretary of the committee.
