A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Area, Dr. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, has called for renewed commitment to youth and women empowerment, describing it as the foundation for building a stronger Nigeria.
Speaking at the Lagos State APC Women Summit in Ikeja, themed “Arise, Aspire and Ascend,” Olabanji-Oba stressed that investing in young people, particularly the girl-child, would help secure the nation’s future.
“Building the youth is everyone’s responsibility. We must help them understand their importance as the future leaders of this country,” she said.
She urged stakeholders to “catch them young,” adding that inspiring the younger generation would prepare them to surpass the achievements of today’s leaders. “When we invest in the girl-child and young adults, we are ensuring a safer and greater Nigeria. God has blessed us as a nation; it is left for us to nurture the blessings,” she added.
The APC chieftain commended the leadership of the party’s women wing for their efforts in driving empowerment initiatives, while praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what she described as visionary leadership. According to her, Tinubu’s dedication and foresight justified his emergence as party leader and eventual president.
“There is a reason we say Lagos leads and others follow,” Olabanji-Oba stated, urging the women leaders not to relent in their advocacy for inclusion and capacity building.
