The Kebbi State Caucus of the National Assembly has called for the arrest and prosecution of former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, accusing him of inciting unrest in the state.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Senator Adamu Aliero, who spoke on behalf of the caucus, dismissed as “false and politically motivated” a petition Malami submitted on 10 September 2025, alleging that Governor Nasir Idris and other politicians were importing thugs, foreign mercenaries, and weapons into Kebbi.

The lawmakers claimed instead that Malami brought hired thugs from Sokoto, Koko, and Rara during a recent visit to Birnin Kebbi, leading to violent clashes at the APC state secretariat. They described the incident as unprecedented in the state’s peaceful political history.

“The petition is nothing more than a smear campaign aimed at destabilising Kebbi and undermining the achievements of Governor Idris in security and governance,” Aliero said, urging security agencies to invite Malami to substantiate his allegations.

Senator Garuba Musa Maidoki added that the APC is a peaceful party and challenged Malami to provide proof of his claims. He also praised President Bola Tinubu for progress in the fight against banditry, noting that displaced villages in his constituency had been resettled.

The caucus reaffirmed its support for Governor Idris, stressing its commitment to protecting peace, democracy, and good governance in the state.
