President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in Tuesday’s fire outbreak at the Afriland Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island. He also sympathized with the management and staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Capital, and United Bank for Africa (UBA), all of whom were affected by the tragic incident.
At least seven people have been confirmed dead, including four FIRS staff members. The victims passed away in different hospitals across Lagos after being evacuated from the high-rise building. Several others remain hospitalized as doctors work to save their lives.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed solidarity with Afriland Properties Limited, FIRS, UBA, and United Capital over the devastating losses. He also sent prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured and comfort for grieving families.
The President praised the swift response of the Federal Fire Service, medical personnel, first aiders, and members of the public, noting their sense of duty during the evacuation. He further urged heightened caution, training, and preparedness to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The Lagos Island fire was one of two separate incidents on Tuesday that left many injured and destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
