Rivers Assembly to Resume Sitting After Lifting of Emergency Rule

The Rivers State House of Assembly has announced that it will hold its post-emergency plenary session at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The development comes after President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency imposed on Rivers on Wednesday, paving the way for the return of normal democratic processes in the state.

The decision marks a significant step toward restoring legislative activities in Rivers, which had been disrupted by the emergency rule following the prolonged political crisis. Lawmakers are expected to deliberate on pressing issues as governance resumes fully.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, the session will be presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule. The sitting will provide the lawmakers with an opportunity to address matters that had been pending during the suspension of regular assembly proceedings.

For now, the plenary will be held at the Conference Hall of the Legislative Quarters on Aba Road, serving as a temporary venue for the Assembly’s activities. This arrangement is expected to continue until the lawmakers return to their permanent chambers.
