“Police Nab Security Guard for Kidnapping Toddler, Demanding ₦5m Ransom in Lagos”

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy in the Elemoro area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the child’s mother reported the incident on September 21, 2025, after the guard fled with her son and mobile phone to an unknown location.

The suspect later contacted the child’s father using the stolen phone and demanded a ransom of ₦5 million for the boy’s release.

Police investigations revealed that one Aruna Dauda, who stood as guarantor for Kini before his employment, was also invited for questioning. The child was eventually released, but operatives continued their search for the suspect.

Adebisi disclosed that on September 23, 2025, operatives of the Tactical Squad (Hyena) tracked and arrested Kini at his hideout in Elemoro. He confessed to the crime and remains in custody, pending his arraignment.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, strongly condemned the abduction and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to curbing violent and capital crimes in Lagos.

The command further urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities through its emergency numbers.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, police confirmed that five bodies recovered along the Oreta riverbank in Ikorodu’s Igbogbo community were victims of a cult-related attack. The incident adds to a spate of cult-related killings across the state, with more than 26 suspects already arrested.
