The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, marked his 60th birthday with a series of humanitarian gestures, including paying examination fees for 100 inmates, securing bail for nine others, and donating food and cash to internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Fifty-seven inmates were registered for the 2025 National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), while 43 will sit for the National Examinations Council (NECO) exams. The Speaker also donated food items worth millions of naira to inmates at the Kuje Custodial Centre and IDPs in Kabusa Camp, Abuja. His wife, Hajia Fatima Abbas-Tajudeen, and senior aides also contributed cash donations running into millions.

In Zaria, Abbas spent over ₦3 million to secure the release of nine inmates through bail bonds. Beneficiaries included Ibrahim Dan’asabe, Kabir Ibrahim, Haruna Musa, and five others.

Moved by the story of Chikwendu Hart, an inmate who has spent 13 years awaiting trial while earning a PhD and publishing seven books, Abbas’ Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Chamberlain Dunkwu, personally donated ₦1 million to support his education.

Medical personnel from Nizamiye Hospital Abuja were also on ground to provide free healthcare for IDPs.

Speaking through Dr. Dunkwu, Abbas said his celebration was dedicated to extending hope, compassion, and opportunities to vulnerable Nigerians. “Conviction is not condemnation,” he said, adding that leadership goes beyond policies to empathy and service.

The Speaker commended humanitarian partners and reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to initiatives that promote education, justice, and dignity for all Nigerians.
