The Kogi State Government has approved N1.5 billion for the payment of 2026 bursary allowances to students of Kogi origin studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, disclosed this in Lokoja yesterday while unveiling the state’s online registration portal for the bursary scheme.
According to him, the initiative underscores Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to student welfare. “We urge all eligible undergraduates to take advantage of this opportunity by registering and creating accounts on the portal,” Jones said.
He recalled that during the 2024/25 academic year, the government released N1.5 billion for bursary support. Over 400,000 students applied through the online system, but only 8,170 qualified and received payment. Jones assured that the 2026 process would be more seamless and inclusive.
The Commissioner handed over sensitisation materials to the leadership of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), urging them to ensure wider awareness so that more students benefit this year.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board, Mr. Afolabi Joseph, said the process had been simplified to allow students register with just a mobile phone from anywhere in the country.
NAKOSS President, Comrade Sunday Adeola, commended Governor Ododo for prioritising student welfare and pledged to embark on a vigorous sensitisation campaign across tertiary institutions nationwide.
