The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has invested about ₦800 million in a series of training programmes aimed at enhancing the skills and capacity of stakeholders, including project beneficiaries and staff.

This was disclosed in a statement by the KSADP Communication Specialist, Ameen Yassar, on Saturday.

According to the Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, who spoke at the opening of a training workshop held on Friday at the Kadawa Artificial Insemination Centre, the initiative seeks to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the project’s objectives and ensure its sustainability beyond its completion.

“The current training focuses on Animal Insemination for animal husbandry technicians and other livestock staff of the Kano State Ministry of Agriculture,” Muhammad said. “These capacity-building efforts have strengthened the skills, knowledge, and resources of all beneficiaries.”

He added that the artificial insemination training forms part of a broader strategy to revive and sustain livestock development in Kano State—one of Nigeria’s leading livestock hubs. The state boasts over 1.21 million cattle-owning households, 1.46 million engaged in goat rearing, and 1.15 million in sheep production, with livestock contributing over ₦1.73 trillion to Kano’s GDP in 2023.

Muhammad further revealed that the Kadawa Artificial Insemination Centre, previously neglected, has been renovated with the support of the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund. The upgrades include the procurement of five exotic bulls, modern equipment, and improved infrastructure.

“An additional ₦125 million has been earmarked for further upgrades, including the provision of new inputs, fence reconstruction, and the establishment of a two-hectare fodder farm to ensure feed availability,” he stated.

He urged participants to make the most of the training, emphasizing that achieving breed improvement and increased milk production depends on their efficiency and commitment.

One of the trainees, Sulaiman Audu, expressed appreciation to the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund, noting that the training would significantly enhance their technical expertise and productivity.

The workshop, conducted in collaboration with the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology, Kano, includes both theoretical and practical sessions on artificial insemination techniques—covering semen collection, freezing, storage, animal health, breed selection, and record management.

on August 7, 2025, that KSADP signed an amended $12.3 million Memorandum of Understanding with the Sasakawa Africa Association for the procurement of modern agricultural machinery to boost mechanisation and food security across the state.
