The Abia State Government has launched a blistering attack on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, describing him as deceitful, ungrateful, and unfit for leadership. The government’s position was contained in a strongly-worded statement issued on Monday by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity.
According to the statement, the state government accused Kalu of a pattern of betrayal and arrogance, alleging that his political career was built through the generosity and mentorship of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State. It claimed that Senator Kalu not only mentored and financed Benjamin Kalu but also sponsored his trip abroad and gave him 25% of the shares in Bende Export Limited, a company he fully owned. The statement further alleged that Kalu mismanaged the investment and later betrayed his benefactor despite the senator’s continued support for his political rise.
The Abia Government also accused the Deputy Speaker of “repaying kindness with treachery,” claiming he has since turned against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu by maligning him before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The release added that Governor Alex Otti, who was Senator Kalu’s banker at the time, can attest to the financial and political support the senator provided to the Deputy Speaker.
Concluding the statement, the Abia State Government maintained that true leadership requires humility, loyalty, and integrity—qualities it insists Benjamin Kalu lacks. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and accountable governance, stressing that it will not be distracted by individuals whose political relevance, it said, is built on “lies, betrayal, and deceit.” The Deputy Speaker has yet to officially respond to the allegations at the time of this report.
