Group Launches Voter Registration Sensitisation in Akwa Ibom, Urges Residents to See PVC as Tool for Good Governance

Residents of the Abak/Ika/Etim Ekpo Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State have applauded the Abrahim Honourable Political Movement, led by Abel Abraham, for organising a Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) sensitisation rally ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rally, which drew large crowds from several local government areas, aimed to educate rural dwellers on the importance of obtaining and using the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) as a tool for political participation and accountability.

One of the participants, Okon, told South South PUNCH that the exercise had enlightened him on the value of the PVC, describing it as “an eye opener.”
“This rally is an eye opener to many of us. Before now, we didn’t know the value of the PVC as a political weapon,” he said.

Another attendee, Mary Uduak, commended the group for bringing the campaign to their community, noting that it had significantly improved their political awareness.

Speaking during the event at the Etim Ekpo Local Government Secretariat, the group’s leader, Abel Abraham, stressed that the PVC empowers citizens to influence leadership choices and promote good governance.

“All we’re doing is to educate our people on the importance of owning a PVC. It’s a powerful tool that enables you to decide who governs you and helps ensure accountability,” Abraham said.
He added that many grassroots voters mistakenly believe that verbal support alone can influence elections, without realising that their true power lies in possessing and using the PVC.

Abraham also declared his support for President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, expressing confidence that their continued leadership would sustain ongoing development efforts.

“We stand firmly with President Tinubu, Senator Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno because we believe their leadership will ensure continuity and consolidate the progress we’re already witnessing,” he stated.

Speaking on behalf of the host communities, a youth leader, Mr. Victor Akpan, thanked the group for the initiative and pledged to mobilise residents to register and collect their PVCs.

“We’re grateful to Hon. Abel Abraham and his team for coming here to enlighten us. We’ll make sure our people not only register but also collect their PVCs,” Akpan said.

The rally, tagged “One Million Man March,” commenced at the Ika Local Government Secretariat, moved through major streets, and ended at the Etim Ekpo Local Government Secretariat roundabout.
