The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has described girls as treasures, changemakers, and exceptional leaders, emphasizing that any society seeking progress must recognize the uniqueness of the girl child and commit to protecting and empowering her.

In a statement released on Saturday to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, Dr. Soludo — who is also the founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo — urged families, schools, workplaces, worship centers, and communities to create supportive environments where every girl can thrive.

She noted that the Anambra State government, under Governor Charles Soludo, is committed to inclusivity and has taken deliberate steps to build a healthy and equitable society for all genders.

“How much do we really talk about and take sincere actions on issues affecting the girl child?” she asked, adding that while progress has been made, more must be done to address challenges facing girls in society.

Describing girls as “unique, intelligent, and beautiful,” Dr. Soludo stated that the state’s inclusive policies begin from conception, through free antenatal and delivery care — including cesarean sections — to free education in all public schools.

She further highlighted the government’s efforts in revitalizing the health sector and expanding access to affordable, quality healthcare for all children.

“For every child in Anambra, we take responsibility for their dreams. For every girl child, we do even more because being a girl is being super special,” she said.

Dr. Soludo concluded by celebrating girls across Anambra and beyond:
“Happy International Day of the Girl Child to all the phenomenal girls out there. You are changemakers — always remember that.”
