Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the move is driven by a commitment to fairness, partnership, and alignment with the Federal Government’s development agenda.
Speaking at a well-attended event titled “Charting a New Course: Transition from PDP to APC,” Governor Mbah described the decision as the outcome of months of deep reflection and consultation, noting that leadership sometimes demands difficult but purposeful choices.
“Today marks a new beginning,” he said. “After careful thought and engagement, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC in pursuit of a shared vision for progress.”
The governor emphasized that his decision was not rooted in personal grievances but in the conviction that the South East, particularly Enugu, deserves a fairer representation and stronger partnership at the national level.
“For years, Enugu and the South East stood by the PDP, yet our voices were too often ignored. It is time to align with a platform that values equity and respects our regional aspirations,” Mbah stated.
He further revealed that the defection represents a collective decision involving his political structure—comprising members of the National and State Assemblies, local government chairmen, councillors, and over 80% of the party executives across the state.
