The House of Representatives has called on security agencies to urgently deploy personnel to Kebbe and Tambuwal Federal Constituency in Sokoto State to tackle the escalating wave of bandit attacks ravaging the area.

This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, who represents the constituency, during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Dasuki, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lamented the deteriorating security situation, noting that banditry had led to widespread killings, kidnappings, and mass displacement across several communities in recent months.

Citing recent incidents, he said that on August 12, 2025, armed men attacked Fakku Ward in Kebbe Local Government Area, killing five people, abducting 28, and rustling 37 cows. Similarly, Sangi Ward came under attack on August 15, forcing residents to flee to nearby towns such as Kuchi, Koko, and Kebbe for safety.

He further revealed that Ungushi Ward was raided on August 18, resulting in two deaths and seven abductions, while on August 20, bandits struck Jabo/Kagara Ward in Tambuwal LGA, displacing four villages. Dasuki also recounted the August 23 kidnapping of three businessmen in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward and the abduction of PDP Youth Leader, Abdullahi Zaki, on August 25, who remains missing despite ransom payments.

> “Families have been torn apart, communities deserted, and children unable to attend school. Farmers have abandoned their farmlands out of fear,” he said.
“These unending attacks have crippled the local economy, deepened poverty, and eroded social cohesion.”

The lawmaker added that the strained diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Niger Republic have worsened the security situation across the North-West and North-East, exposing border communities like Kebbe and Tambuwal to increased cross-border crime, arms smuggling, and insurgency.

While commending security operatives for ongoing efforts, Dasuki called for a sustained, intelligence-driven strategy to restore lasting peace. He referenced Nigeria’s statement at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, which reaffirmed that “none of us is safe unless all of us are safe.”

Warning of possible humanitarian collapse, he urged immediate and decisive intervention to prevent further displacement and loss of trust between citizens and the state.

Following the adoption of the motion, the House directed the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies to strengthen joint operations in Kuchi, Kebbe, and Tambuwal LGAs to safeguard lives, property, and farmlands.

It also urged the Federal Government to rescue abducted victims, investigate the recurring attacks, apprehend the culprits, and ensure swift justice.

Additionally, the House called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and humanitarian partners to provide urgent relief materials to displaced residents.

To ensure follow-up, the House mandated its Committees on Defence, National Security and Intelligence, and Police Affairs to liaise with the relevant agencies and report back within two weeks.

It also tasked the Committees on ECOWAS Parliament and Foreign Affairs to work towards normalising relations with Niger Republic and other Sahel countries to improve cross-border intelligence sharing and curb transnational banditry.
