Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has announced a new traffic policy that limits the maximum fine for any traffic offence to ₦10,000, effective October 14, 2025 — regardless of the nature of the violation.
According to a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Tuesday, Soludo made the announcement during a town hall meeting with transport stakeholders held at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha.
The governor described the decision as a major policy shift aimed at reducing the financial strain on motorists and promoting fairness in traffic enforcement across the state.
“Starting from October 14, 2025, no traffic offender in Anambra will pay more than ₦10,000 as a fine. This initiative is part of our effort to ease the economic pressure on our people amid the rising cost of living,” Soludo said.
He emphasized the importance of balancing law enforcement with empathy, adding that his administration will establish a special task force to clamp down on illegal tax collectors and ensure all revenues are properly remitted to government accounts.
The governor also revealed plans to reorganize the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) to properly designate and mark bus stops, ensuring smoother transportation within the state.
Commending transport operators for their contributions to the state’s economy, Soludo noted, “From the records, no administration in less than four years has constructed and rehabilitated as many kilometres of roads as ours. These projects are for you — our partners in progress.”
In her remarks, Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Patricia Igwebuike, applauded the governor’s integrated approach to transportation, which aligns road, maritime, aviation, and blue economy initiatives.
Other officials, including Celestine Anere (Managing Director, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra), Emeka Okonkwo (Managing Director, ARTMA), and Chike Obiakor (Managing Director, Transport Company of Anambra State), praised Soludo’s reforms, highlighting achievements such as the elimination of touting and the digitisation of tax payment systems.
They pledged their continued support for the governor, describing themselves as his “foot soldiers” ahead of the forthcoming November 8 governorship election.
