Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged members of the 2025 Batch B Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to take full advantage of the scheme’s skill acquisition programme to build their capacity and become self-reliant.
The governor gave the charge during the closing ceremony of the orientation exercise on Tuesday. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Hon. Benibo Anabraba, Fubara encouraged the corps members to embrace entrepreneurship and skill development as pathways to becoming wealth creators and future employers of labour.
He assured them of the hospitality and warmth of the people of Rivers State, urging them to see the state as their home during their service year.
“Take the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development training seriously and equip yourselves to compete favourably in Nigeria’s expanding economic space,” the governor said.
Fubara also reminded the corps members that their mobilisation into the NYSC scheme is a call to national service, emphasizing the importance of serving selflessly and honourably.
In his farewell message, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, advised the corps members to use the service year to discover their true purpose and to approach their assignments with empathy and dedication.
The NYSC, established in 1973 under General Yakubu Gowon’s administration, was designed to promote national unity and post-war reconstruction by integrating Nigerian youths from diverse backgrounds through service to the nation.
