The Abia State Government has dismissed a viral message circulating on social media claiming that a new State and Local Government Pension Verification Exercise will begin in the state on Wednesday, October 16, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information, the government clarified that the message is false and did not originate from any official source. It noted that the referenced pension verification exercise actually took place in 2024, and there are currently no plans for a similar exercise this year.

The government therefore advises members of the public—especially pensioners—to disregard the fake notice and avoid visiting any venue mentioned in the false message, as no such activity is being conducted at this time.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of pensioners, the Abia State Government assured that all pension-related activities will continue to follow due process and transparency. Citizens are encouraged to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information and to help curb the spread of misinformation.
