Gov Makinde Appoints Prof. Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka as Chairman of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Governing Council

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of renowned development economist and innovation expert, Professor Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Monday in a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi. Prof. Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, a globally respected scholar and United Nations development adviser, will head a seven-member council charged with repositioning LAUTECH Teaching Hospital for excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare service delivery.

Other members of the Governing Council include Mr. Olatunde Gabriel Oyelade, Dr. Bello Adebayo Taiwo, Mrs. Isola Agnes Bolanle, Dr. Akintunde Kehinde Ayinde, Prof. Olawale Adebayo Olakulehin, and Prof. Adenike Olugbenga-Bello.

Prof. Oyelaran-Oyeyinka currently serves as Senior Special Adviser to the President of the African Development Bank on Industrialisation. He previously held key roles at the United Nations, including Director of the Monitoring and Research Division at UN-Habitat and Chief Scientific Adviser at the UN Centre for Science and Technology for Development. An alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, he earned his PhD in Technology and Development Studies from The Open University, United Kingdom.

A prolific author and policy strategist, Prof. Oyelaran-Oyeyinka has worked extensively across Africa and Asia on industrialisation, innovation, and sustainable development, making significant contributions to the advancement of science and technology policy on the continent. His appointment is expected to bring visionary leadership and global best practices to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.

Governor Makinde, in the appointment letter, urged the new council members to serve with commitment and integrity, emphasising that their work is vital to ongoing reforms in the state’s education and health sectors.

In a related development, the governor also approved the appointment of Comrade Adeniyi Babatunde as Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), along with seven new members: Olatunde Akintunde Theophilus, Mrs. Adebayo Mariam Adepeju, Mr. Olanrewaju Emmanuel, Chief Kunmi Agboola, Mr. Remi Ayoade, Mr. Sunday Falana, and Mr. Babatunde Ige.

These appointments, according to the state government, reflect Governor Makinde’s continued commitment to strengthening key institutions, improving governance, and ensuring efficient service delivery across critical sectors in Oyo State.
