Abia Government Completes Nine School Renovations, Flags Off New Road Projects

At a press briefing held at the Government House, Umuahia, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced significant progress in the state’s education and infrastructure sectors.

Kanu revealed that out of the 63 schools currently undergoing renovation across the state, nine have been completed and are ready for use, while the remaining 54 are at various stages of completion.

The completed schools include Ntaka Community Primary School, Umuahia; Ibeku High School, Umuahia; Ohuhu Community Secondary School; Migrant Farmers Primary School, Uruatta Osisioma; Umuagbai Primary School; Abayi Nchokoro Primary School, Ugwunagbo LGA; Owerri Aba Primary School, Ugwunagbo LGA; Umuoba Central Model Primary School, Isiala Ngwa South LGA; and Abiriba Margin Memorial Primary School, Ohafia.

The commissioner also stated that construction is ongoing at three Smart Schools located at Ogbo Primary School, Ubakala; Umuomia Ukwu Primary School, Isiala Ngwa North; and Umuagbai Secondary School, Aba. According to him, 100 teachers are currently undergoing specialized training to effectively manage these Smart Schools.

Kanu further disclosed that on Friday, October 24, Governor Alex Otti will officially flag off the construction of two major road projects, the 25-kilometre Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road and the 13.1-kilometre Ariam–Usaka Ring Road.

He added that work on the Enyimba Hotel project is progressing steadily, with the official flag-off ceremony expected in the coming weeks.

According to the commissioner, these projects underscore the Otti administration’s commitment to improving education, infrastructure, and overall development across Abia State.
