The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has issued a 14-day termination notice to the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for what he described as “poor construction methodology and substandard execution” on the Aba-bound lane of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway rehabilitation project.

Speaking after his routine inspection tour of federal road projects across the South-South and South-East regions, Umahi lamented that the company had repeatedly failed to comply with directives to improve the quality of its work. He noted that despite several warnings, CCECC had shown “no tangible improvement,” leaving the ministry with no option but to initiate disciplinary measures.

“I have directed that a 14-day notice of termination be served to the contractor. In addition, the Port Harcourt-bound section of the project will be descoped and re-awarded to a more competent firm to ensure timely completion and quality assurance,” the minister declared.

The Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway project, listed as Contract No. 6252, has faced widespread criticism for delays and substandard delivery. Umahi stressed that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, the Federal Government would not condone mediocrity in the execution of vital infrastructure projects.

He, however, applauded Arab Contractors O.A.O. Nigeria Limited for recording significant progress on the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Dual Carriageway, Section II (Umuahia Tower–Aba Rail/Road Crossing), Contract No. 6209, noting that the work is now 85 percent complete. Umahi further thanked President Tinubu for his steadfast support and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering durable and high-quality road networks nationwide.
