Inyama to Receive SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award for Contributions to Nigerian Sports

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has nominated veteran sports administrator and journalist, Pastor Emeka Inyama, for its prestigious Diamond Jubilee National Award, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the growth and development of Nigerian sports.

In a formal notification signed by Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN’s Secretary-General, the association commended Inyama’s unwavering commitment to sports development, describing him as a key figure whose initiatives have discovered and nurtured numerous young football talents who now shine at both national and international levels.

The award ceremony, part of activities marking SWAN’s 60th anniversary, will take place on October 31, 2025, at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Pastor Inyama, a former Commissioner for Sports in Abia State, is the only elected Chairman in the history of the Nigerian National League (NNL) and a former Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

A respected figure in the nation’s sporting community, Inyama’s career spans journalism, sports administration, and football development. He previously served as Sports Editor of The Statesman Newspaper, Chief Sports Reporter at Champions Newspaper, and later became Managing Editor/CEO and Editor-in-Chief of the now-defunct National Sportslink Newspaper.

He also held key roles as General Manager (Marketing) for the 8th All Africa Games (COJA) and General Manager (General Duties) for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Organizing Committee, Nigeria 2009.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Inyama has mentored numerous young journalists and sports managers, and served as Chairman of the Abia State Football Association.

SWAN noted that the award is part of its ongoing effort to honour individuals whose passion, leadership, and vision have helped shape the landscape of Nigerian sports. The association described Inyama as “a beacon of excellence whose impact continues to inspire future generations.”
