The Kogi State Government has urged residents to remain calm and vigilant following reports of a planned terrorist attack targeting parts of Kogi and Ondo states.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government described the intelligence report as a positive sign, highlighting the proactive efforts of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies in safeguarding Nigerians.
“The report is proof that our security agencies are alert and proactive. We commend the DSS for their vigilance and for providing early intelligence capable of preventing such evil plans,” Fanwo said.
He added that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration prioritizes the protection of lives and property, noting that security measures have been reinforced and surveillance intensified, especially around border areas.
Fanwo urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear but to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious movements or persons to security agencies.
“The government will protect the people at all costs. We will not allow criminals or terrorists to destabilize the peace and progress we have achieved. Kogi remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, and we intend to maintain that status,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has also appealed for calm following the DSS security alert. In a statement, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, clarified that the leaked memo to the Nigerian Army was part of routine intelligence-sharing among security agencies.
“These reports are a normal aspect of security operations aimed at identifying and preventing threats. The government and relevant agencies are taking necessary precautions to ensure public safety,” Ajanaku stated.
He advised residents to remain calm, cooperative, and vigilant, assuring that the government is taking all measures to prevent any attack in the state.
