The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and other key stakeholders, has successfully received 150 Nigerian returnees from Agadez, Niger Republic.

According to a post on NEMA’s official X handle on Friday, the returnees arrived safely at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, around 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

The agency explained that the exercise was part of the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) programme, jointly implemented by the Federal Government of Nigeria, NEMA, IOM, and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).

Upon arrival, officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation to facilitate proper profiling and reintegration of the returnees.

NEMA stated that the group consisted of 88 adult males, 32 adult females, 14 male children, and 16 female children. After registration, the returnees were moved to Bizare Hotel Luxury Apartments for temporary accommodation and further profiling on October 24.

In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified, and humane return of its citizens, NEMA said the returnees were provided with food, clean water, medical care, ambulance support, and logistical assistance to ease their transition.

The agency commended the collaborative efforts of IOM, NCFRMI, NIS, and other partners for ensuring a smooth, well-coordinated, and humane reception process focused on the welfare and dignity of all returnees.
