Edo APC Warns Commissioners: ‘No Asiwaju Cap, No Party Seat’

The Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, has declared that any commissioner who disobeys Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive to wear the mandatory ‘Asiwaju cap’ during State Executive Council meetings will be suspended from the party.

Governor Okpebholo had earlier mandated that all commissioners must wear the signature cap—branded in honour of President Bola Tinubu—at Exco sessions as a show of loyalty to the President and the party.

Speaking in a recent television interview, Tenebe described refusal to comply as “indiscipline and insubordination,” insisting that the APC leadership would not tolerate any act of disloyalty.

> “If you refuse to wear the cap as directed by the governor, you will be suspended. That’s indiscipline and insubordination,” Tenebe warned. “We’ve pledged 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu, and every party member must align with that goal. Those resisting are not true APC members. In Edo, our rule is clear—no Asiwaju cap, no Exco.”

The governor first issued the directive on October 14 during the swearing-in of new commissioners and board members, stressing that Tinubu’s support was instrumental to his own victory. He further warned that defaulters would be barred from subsequent council meetings.

The ‘Asiwaju cap’ policy has since become a symbol of loyalty within the Edo APC, reflecting the party’s broader push to consolidate support for President Tinubu ahead of future political engagements.
