On Tuesday, October 28, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, delivered the keynote address at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference themed “Better Leadership for a Better Nigeria.”

The event, organized and hosted by Abia-born economist and former World Bank Treasurer and Vice President, Ms. Arunma Oteh, OON, also featured the public presentation of her new book, “All Hands on Deck: Unleash Prosperity through World-Class Capital Market.”

In his address, Governor Otti emphasized the need for discipline, visionary thinking, and courageous execution in leadership, stressing that every society rises or declines based on the quality of ideas generated and championed by its thought leaders.

> “Every society thrives or falls on the strength of the ideas developed and propagated by its thought leaders — the individuals whose opinions direct the ebbs and flows of public conversation, morality, and values,” he stated.

Governor Otti urged leaders to prioritize education and human capital development, noting that without education, even the richest natural resources could lead to adverse outcomes.

He commended Ms. Oteh for her consistent efforts in promoting positive leadership ideals and for her contribution to national discourse through her new book, describing her as “one of Nigeria’s brightest exports” and “a shining light to the nation at 60.”

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to quality healthcare delivery, Governor Otti highlighted that 15% of Abia State’s annual budget is allocated to the health sector — a key part of his broader human capital development agenda.

The conference brought together prominent dignitaries and thought leaders from across Nigeria to deliberate on effective governance and strategies for national development.
