The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to commemorate 70 years of women in policing, marking seven decades of courage, resilience, and service since the first group of female officers joined the Force in 1955.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the event will take place from December 3 to 4, 2025. The celebration will bring together serving and retired female officers, as well as the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The statement highlighted that the milestone “underscores the vital role of women in strengthening law enforcement and fostering community trust across the nation.”

The Inspector-General commended female officers for their invaluable contributions to the Force’s operational efficiency and public image, noting that their “dedication and compassion remain integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria.”

“For seven decades, women of the Nigeria Police Force have excelled in administration, investigations, tactical operations, and command leadership,” the statement read. “They have exemplified integrity, empathy, and excellence, redefining policing with compassion and purpose.”

Planned activities for the two-day celebration include a national lecture, historical exhibition, panel discussions, and a community outreach programme.

According to the statement, the anniversary reinforces the IGP’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development for women in the Force.

“The Nigeria Police Force extends heartfelt appreciation to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism continue to inspire pride and progress within the institution and the nation,” it added.
